Some of you folks are sad. You are commenting on a bill that you haven’t even read. You take the word of the media and blindly accept it – all of it. From what I read, the president signed a bill with important provisions for our defense and related programs. Congress – not the president, included this detention related wording. As usual, congress ties the hands of the president, leaving him no choice but to sign a bill thathe would have preferred not to, but had to in order to successfully pass the other good things in it. Congress wrote the bill, not the president. If you don’t like it, vote out congress because unlike the president, they don’t have term limits.

First this legislation does allow detaining of US Citizens.read this ABC article. Obam himself says so. Second, The original versions had language that exempted US citizens and Legal residents from military detentions. It was the Obama administration who insisted on removing that language least it “severely restrict their ability to fight terrorist. Obama’s veto threat was if the language was not removed. Finally, do you think it’s gonna be the first black president of the USA that’s gonna become a tyrant? He has no “roledex” worth speaking of. He’s a puppet for the real powers that be. He’s the face of the person that destroyed this country’s freedom. Subsequent Presidents will surely lock us down in a corporate dictatorship. Just imagine a power player like Newt Gingrich as President with that power. Finally, the American public is to blame for being so stupid as to continually return these sorry people back to office time and time again. Getting what one deserves comes to mind.

How could this happen? This is a sad day for all of America and it’s citizens. Anyone but Obama and Ron Paul to take over this country later this year and reverse this for 2013. I say this because at least we have Homeland Security still. Under Ron Paul everything would be back to the states including disaster assistance. Remember Katrina and the taking of guns from people protecting their homes by law enforcement? Want that to happen again? Then go ahead and re-elect this idiot or Ron Paul and you will have your wish. Just my two cents worth of banter.

Well, I cannot vote Obama in 2012. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back. As a pro civil liberties guy, I would rather vote Santorum than Obama. But in reality, I will, most likely, be voting Romney in 2012. Anybody except Obama. I plan on changing my party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. So long Democrats and good riddance.

In a way, this is left over residue not only from OBL, but from Timothy McVeigh as well.

Folks like Schumer were arguing for these powers way back then. As well, increased power to go after offshore Cayman Corps.

Lurching state power just like this is McVeigh’s only actual legacy, ironically, 180 degrees whatever intent he thought he had. It is a lesson in impotent yet destructive hlaf-way megapolitical acts. The state that survives such half-way attacks responds by giving itself more power.

OBL was an example of an attack from without, McVeigh and attack from within, and the response of the state was similar in both events; grant itself more power.

Here’s an idea, America, “land of the free, home of the brave,” quit whining about the end of freedom and GET INTO THE STREETS! You’re the US of A, for God’s sake!

I believe that every member of congress has to take an oath that they will uphold the Constitution. This law is unconstitutional. If every time the Supreme Court declares a law unconstitutional all of the congress members who voted for it would immediately lose their job (forever) I bet that a lot fewer unconstitutional laws would be passed.

Mike, this isnt Obama’s fault?! HE SIGNED THE BILL!!! Rand Paul tried to add an amendment that would exclude citizens… it was voted down. You can find that footage from the senate floor on youtube if you’re interested. I blame the congress, the house, the senate, and the Obama administration for passing this revolting legislation…

Mike, some people (like you for instance) have no idea what they’re talking about. As I stated earlier,

“The original versions had language that exempted US citizens and Legal residents from military detentions. It was the Obama administration who insisted on removing that language least it “severely restrict their ability to fight terrorist. Obama’s veto threat was if the language was not removed.

This fact is public knowledge with participants in this tragedy recounting the events in front of cameras. Recorded. For all (who are interested in the truth) to see. So “Mike” I do hope you are not another non thinking, “I’ll follow any democrat, even over a cliff” kind of guy. cause it’s that type of person that got us in the mess.

He should have never signed that bill. Even though I lean left I definately think that the powers of the government should definately be limited in certian areas. A republican would have signed the bill too and I still think that the democrats are the lesser of two evils, but honestly, he should have not hesitated to veto it as soon as it touched his desk. Politics is B.S. and giving the ability to indefinately detain citizens to a politically elected figure is a terrible idea.

Honest abe came close to doing the same thing during the Civil War, he was going to throw the Chief Justice of the Supreme court in prison to shut him up >>>>>>>>

Afraid – I believe you did not read what I wrote, I did in fact say it was Obama who wanted it removed.
Perhaps this is just a simple mix-up on your part.

No need to get smart here, you have a right to your opinion(s) as do we all and I respect that.

Review the above please you will see.
