He had reservations? Obummer wanted the language specifically left in. All the conn-jobs and Obama should be recalled, impeached, and tried for blatant treason against the US.
I really didn’t think we could get worse than Bush, but we did. If people don’t wakeup now they never will and this country will be a third world banana republic run by a psychopathic Dicktator, This is what conjobs in congress and the multinational corps WANT! We the people will have to throw our bodies into the cogs of this TYRANNICAL MACHINE in any way possible to stop this abomination.
Do you all want to sit in a Guantanamo style FEMA camp, how about your children? We are all Palestinians now! Zionists have have had a nice coup…
Vote Ron Paul or line of for the FEMA camps, that’s everyone’s choice now.
Ron Paul is the only man running for President who has spoken out against this. What does that tell you? Vote Ron Paul 2012 and let’s take back our freedom!!! Go to his official website (which I apparently can’t post here), go to Youtube and look him up there (you can see how he has been fighting the erosion of our freedom for the past 30 years.) Please do this now!!!
While Americans bickered about how the rich businessman was taking advantage of the poor and how we need to bomb Iran for having what everyobne else around them has (nuclear power), the great lie that is dividied government wholeheartedly came together to support indefinite military detention of Americans on the presdinets say so. Why not? The president has already supported tapping your phone and internet, killing 16 year old american citizens with drones w/o charge or trial. The media didn’t bother reporting this when it went thru the senate and the house. They spent more time telling us how Ron Paul is heartless and crazy and that HE MUST NOT, I mean could never win the presidency. Meanwhile, The Paul family seem to be the only ones predicting these atocities beforehand and then voting against them. We’ve lost the republic and I hope people understand where we are at now. Good Luck, dangerous times are here.
Shame on Obama. Shame on the media for their continued support of this disgraceful President. Stand up American citizens and demand and end to the erosion our civil liberties!!! We need a new candidate for President. Neither side has anyone worth electing.
I’m not sure which is scarier: The fact that our own President signed away more of American’s personal rights, or that the American people don’t realize it and continue to vote for this guy. There’s ONE candidate who says NO NO NO to the disappearance of our personal freedoms. And with the dedicated help of Main Stream Media and the Republican Establishment, the lies on Ron Paul spread like wildfire. How a country can beat down and disrespect a man who has fought for the Constitution for 30 years is pathetic. I’m beginning to lose confidence in the American sheeple. It’s a sad time for America.
bush did same with Constitutional violation ‘patriot’ lol act—same exact thing–may take and hold indef. without charge any American ‘they’ call a ‘terrorist’….anyone
do any one of you, especially those who support president obama, agree that the north korean government that has been sending their own people to the concentration camps to keep the north korear safe is all right ?
laurie winstrand,
So you’re excuse for Obama is that Bush did it too? Will that help you rationalize your vote for him in November? The fact that Bush did something makes it OK for Obama to do it too?
Obama threatened to veto the bill unless congress bent to his demand that they insert the provision to include American citizens. Congress bent to Obama’s wishes and voila…Our President has just created a fascist state in the late Great USA. All who voted for this bill should be arrested as terrorists, held without charges indefinitely as a test model to see if it really works. In twenty years we could assemble a council to discuss the pros & cons of indefinite detention while showing the debate live to all the detainees. They could even weigh in on the debate from prison. Just dreaming.
Bush III
This is the FINAL straw! I don’t agree with a lot of what Ron Paul says and I have never voted Republican but I’m voting for him in 2012.
A President like Ron Paul would never sign this.
Did any of you commenting here actually read the final Bill HR 1540 (not previous versions or senate versions, but the final version signed by Obama) and the president’s signing statements? Clearly you didn’t. You’re all reacting to this sloppy ABC piece and nonsense repeated by the uninformed. If you’d read the final version, those of you harping about Section 1031, would know that the former section 1031, regarding detainees, is now Section 1021. In the final version, 1031 is about the Defense Secretary’s requirement to brief congressional defense committees.
Subtitle D Counterterrorism, starts with Section 1021, which primarily codifies authorities grated to the executive branch and the military in the Authorization for Use of Military Force, passed in 200, under Bush. Let me repeat that – Passed in 2001 under Bush. Obama’s signing statement about this section reads “This section breaks no new ground and is unnecessary. The authority it describes was included in the 2001 AUMF, as recognized by the Supreme Court and confirmed through lower court decisions since then. Two critical limitations in section 1021 confirm that it solely codifies established authorities.” For those of you who need help with translation, than means “Nothing New Here”.
For those claiming “No one is speaking about this. No one is against this but Ron Paul. Obama forced this provision on congress… blah blah blah. Read Representative Henry Waxman’s statement on HR 1540, where he says “I commend President Obama for insisting on a number of changes, including a prohibition on military detention of U.S. citizens and lawful residents, the removal of language that would have banned the use of civilian courts to prosecute Qaeda suspects…” Also read up on Diane Feinstein’s attempts to pass amendments to absolutely exclude US Citizens from these provisions, ending with the compromise to include in section 1021 paragraph (e) AUTHORITIES.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.”
This isn’t really a stretch: if you don’t want to be held indefinitely, don’t engage in terrorism. This is far more humane that what I would do to terrorists. It’s far better than they deserve.
And I am so sick of hearing Ron Paul’s name that I would NEVER vote for him. I would vote for David Duke if it meant preventing me from having to hear his name every day of my life for 4 more years. And it’s completely YOUR fault for shouting his name in every story, whether it’s related to politics or not. It doesn’t matter what the story is about: Ben and Jerry’s adds a new flavor ice cream to their line? “Oh, Ron Paul LOVES ice cream and would just love this new flavor. That’s why I’m voting for him!” Just shut up already.
“This isn’t really a stretch: if you don’t want to be held indefinitely, don’t engage in terrorism”
Here’s the problem tho, who gets to decide what is terrorism? Obama, Holder, and Napalitano are already referring to the Tea Party as “terrorists” DoHS put out a report a year or so ago that anyone with a Ron Paul sticker on their car might be a terrorist, or someone opposed to abortion, or someone that supports the NRA.
This bill is not good. Our founders never intended for the federal government to have this kind of power. The even wrote a document called the Constitution to prevent them from having it, yet our politicians today do not care about this document.
LOL. AmericaThePitiful, that’s one of the best things I’ve read all year ;-) aside from Dave Barry’s 2011 Year Review: The Festival of Sleaze. Glad I’m not the only one nauseated by the RP lovefest
