This isn’t really a stretch: if you don’t want to be held indefinitely, don’t engage in terrorism. This is far more humane that what I would do to terrorists. It’s far better than they deserve.

And I am so sick of hearing Ron Paul’s name that I would NEVER vote for him. I would vote for David Duke if it meant preventing me from having to hear his name every day of my life for 4 more years. And it’s completely YOUR fault for shouting his name in every story, whether it’s related to politics or not. It doesn’t matter what the story is about: Ben and Jerry’s adds a new flavor ice cream to their line? “Oh, Ron Paul LOVES ice cream and would just love this new flavor. That’s why I’m voting for him!” Just shut up already.

“This isn’t really a stretch: if you don’t want to be held indefinitely, don’t engage in terrorism”

Here’s the problem tho, who gets to decide what is terrorism? Obama, Holder, and Napalitano are already referring to the Tea Party as “terrorists” DoHS put out a report a year or so ago that anyone with a Ron Paul sticker on their car might be a terrorist, or someone opposed to abortion, or someone that supports the NRA.

This bill is not good. Our founders never intended for the federal government to have this kind of power. The even wrote a document called the Constitution to prevent them from having it, yet our politicians today do not care about this document.

LOL. AmericaThePitiful, that’s one of the best things I’ve read all year ;-) aside from Dave Barry’s 2011 Year Review: The Festival of Sleaze. Glad I’m not the only one nauseated by the RP lovefest

@Dan Some politicians (read Right-wing) have been trashing our constitution for years – just look at the so-called Patriot Act and frightening expansion of executive powers under Bush. And those of us who cried foul then were labeled “traitors” and “terrorists” by the same short-sighted folks whining about this bill now. Research the history of the bill, Obama’s efforts to eliminate and temper the totalitarian provisions and his signing statement. The act was signed because of the abundance of positive necessary measures it contains, and the totalitarian portions pushed by McCain and congressional republicans were hobbled enough to be dealt with. Hopefully, the administration will be able to get those eliminated permanently or diffused in the courts before we have another republican in the WH declaring war on “anybody we don’t like at the moment”

How will Obama be reelected? He will of course but how will it happen? Have people become so frightened of being called racist that they feel they have to support him? Even when they know the failure he’s been? Sure he’s a great campaigner, but he’s a LOUSY president! And yet I have little doubt that he will get another 4 years. Can we survive that?

Posted by: Nell | January 1, 2012, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm

Obama is a puppet, just like the other presidents. It’s all part of the long term plan.

Posted by: daniel | January 1, 2012, 3:10 pm 3:10 pm

I don’t believe this is about terrorism at all. I believe this is about all the comments regarding revolution on the internet. And the Occupy Wall Street movement convinced our dictators that this was necessary. Our current dictators work on Wall Street and behind closed doors in DC at the FED.

Seriously MDonisland?

There’s a YouTube video of Carl Levin clearly stating the Obama insisted on the provisions to detain U.S. citizens. Who am I gonna believe, you or my own lying eyes?

And to blame the Republicans for a bill that passed the Democrat-controlled Senate? Are you f-ing kidding me?

BTW, the PATRIOT Act passed with bi-partisan support, and guess who authored the original version? That’s right, your “brilliant” Vice President, Mr. Joe Biden himself.

If you think the Democrat party is the party of civil liberties, you better think again son.

I used to wonder how the people of Russia and the people of Germany allowed their nations of millions of “normal” people to fall under the insane tyrannies and do nothing to stop it. Now I know, and its very sad.

RON PAUL would never have signed this bill….. that is more than enough of a reason to vote for him over ALL our other would be RULERS DICTATORS and KINGS in D.C.

Anyone reading this knows it is true.

RON PAUL 2012 our one last chance to do the right thing.

Posted by: wesley | January 1, 2012, 3:35 pm 3:35 pm

And people wonder why Ron Paul is so popular? This law is a travesty and a complete and utter trashing of the Constitution. Reservations my rear end; Obama is another liar and fraud and statist like Bush, Clinton and so may others. Only Ron Paul can stop this madness and avalanche of oppression that is descending on the American people.

Ron Paul 2012 – for freedom, liberty, and the Constitution!!!

Obama threatened to veto this bill UNTIL IT INCLUDED the provision regarding americans on US soil. Shame on me, I voted for this man. Ron Paul 2012.

Never has America has as many ignorant voters as they did in 2008.

I disagree. The Congressional elections of 2010 were far worse, and bred the people who originated this atrocity – the Republican majority in Congress.

You might want to research this a little more. The President’s main role was to take the decisions regarding indefinite detainment out of the hands of the (unelected) military.

Still think Ron Paul is dangerous?

Posted by: Grant | January 1, 2012, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm

Wasn’t Obama a constitutional lawyer? He’s worse than George W. Bush.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED RON PAUL!!! OUR AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE IS AT RISK!!! THE DOCTOR WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS ASSAULT ON OUR DESTINY AND LEGACY!!!!

But “the Left” certainly haven’t and won’t in this case.

Bob Marshall hit the nail right on the head. I was one of those ignorant voters he wrote about, but I cut the string that the great puppet master had me hanging from, after I went from ignorant, to a learned voter and hope that those who fell for his great personality will also follow my lead. Do your own research and you will find that the solution to all of our great Nation’s problems, rest with voting for Ron Paul for President.

Posted by: Bob Ordonez | January 1, 2012, 6:23 pm 6:23 pm

Does anyone still think that there is any difference between the two parties? This bill was formulated and passed by a republican senate, voting in a bipartisan manner, passed by 93% of the Senate, and signed by a Democratic president.

We are now a fully communist country.

can someone repost the exact wording of this bill. if this is really true i’d be more than happy 2 arrest the person who signed this into law.

Our U.S. Constitution is ripped to shreds. Our Bill of Rights is DESTROYED. This Bill violates International Law. The so-called war on terror is the excuse to utterly DESTROY our freedom. In 2009, Homeland Security declared the people to watch out for were veterans returning from the wars, pro-lifers and Tea Party attendees. This year, 2011, Homeland Security put out a video portraying white people as the most likely terrorists.

This EVIL Detention of Citizens is NOT for terrorists. It is for good, decent, patriotic law abiding people to IMPRISON them WITHOUT CHARGE and INDEFINITELY DETAIN them. The end of America and the death of freedom. How could our representatives ALLOW this dreadful CRIME against humanity and pass it? The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave is no longer. What frightening future awaits American innocents?

SECURITY IS NOT FOR OUR SAFETY. ITS FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CRIMINALS IN DC AND OFFSHORELOOTING THE MIDDLE CLASS OF RIGHTS/PROPERTY. TYRANNY ALWAYS COMES IN THE GUISE OF FIGHTING A FOREIGN ENEMY. ASK THE GERMANS. WAKE THE EFF UP NOW, DAMNITT!!! THE FEAR AND PROPAGANDA HAS EXPIRED. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY AND I HAPPEN TO LOVE THE CONCEPT OF FREEDOM. I WILL NEVER SACRIFICE FREEDOM FOR “SECURITY” (EVEN IF IT WAS REAL SECURITY). ONLY THING WE CAN DO TO AVOID A VERY DARK PLACE IN THIS COUNTRY IS VOTE FOR RON PAUL. THE ALTERNATIVE IS NOT FUN. TRUST HISTORY. RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION IN 2012. *PEACE, LOVE, LIBERTY*
